A Place Of Safety

I will sing about your power. Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love. For you have been my refuge, a place of safety when I am in distress.

Psalm 59:16

“I REALLY JUST need to talk to someone about the challenges we’re facing,” Anita told her friend Zeta.

“Go ahead. I’m all ears,” Zeta encouraged. “And besides that, I’m a safe person to talk to. My house is a safe place. You can say what you want, and it will stay right here.”

With that reassurance, Anita poured out her heart.

We all need people like Zeta and the safe places they offer. Places where we won’t be threatened or face danger, emotionally or even physically. Places where we can live in the freedom of being ourselves. Places where we can go to regroup, revive, and maybe even heal when we feel out of sorts with the world.

God offers us that kind of place. When we feel emotionally beaten, he tells us to come to him for safety and rest. When we’ve been fighting spiritual battles, holding out against the wiles of Satan, God tells us to take refuge in him. When we’re threatened by others seemingly stronger than ourselves, he is our defender and protector.

We can trust God to be our fortress because he made us for himself. We are his lambs, and he tells us it’s his job to keep the wolves at bay.

As we realize that God offers us a place of safety, we can cheerfully, confidently face whatever the day may bring.
