Purity

God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.

Matthew 5:8

THE GLASS DOOR was absolutely disgusting. It revealed traces of dirty toddler fingers down low and fingerprints from older, bigger people up higher. Smeared mud and other gunk made the window look as if a dirty dog had pressed against it. And no one could guess what probably caused other marks.

The dirt was almost as effective as a curtain. No one could have clearly seen through that glass door! It would definitely take some heavy-duty window cleaner—several applications—and some real scrubbing to be able to see through that glass again.

Have you ever felt as if your heart is gunked up? Maybe you feel it has some smears of envy or prints of disobedience or just spiritual dirt in it. When our hearts are dirty, it’s harder for us to see God. Our view of him is blocked by the dirt of sinful actions, bad attitudes, or lack of faith dwelling inside. When we clear away the gunk, we can once again see God and follow him. Sometimes we just need the spiritual equivalent of a shot of Windex and the wipe of a paper towel to get back to purity. At other times we need several applications of a stronger cleanser and some real work.
