Perseverance
Perseverance
Those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31
KEEP MOVING. You have too much to do to relax.
How many times have you told yourself this on a busy day? And how many busy days do you have each week?
We only have twenty-four hours each day, and we’re so used to filling that time with things we have to do. So what do we do when our waking hours are filled with necessary activities and responsibilities? Studies over several years have shown that we’re taking more and more time away from the hours we should be sleeping. As a result, we’re more prone to illness, and we’re tired—too tired to care about things we might care about otherwise. Too tired to relax and renew. Sometimes we’re too weary to even have the energy for God.
How can we keep going when we just want to drop?
Today’s Scripture verse gives us the promise that, as we trust God, we’ll find renewed strength. It’s no accident that this verse uses eagles as an illustration. Even the smallest eagles have longer and broader wings than other birds, especially other birds of prey. As a result, they have more direct and faster flight.
As we look to God to help us soar, he may show us how to streamline our flights so we’re exerting less energy or not stopping at certain points along the way. He may give us supernatural strength. But no matter how he helps us, we can count on his promise to keep us going—not just physically but emotionally and spiritually as well.
