Healing

Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven.

James 5:14-15

A WOMAN NAMED Sally has had a healing ministry for many years. As she has prayed for God to heal people physically and emotionally, she has seen some amazing results.

Sally tells one story about a woman who had suffered from migraine headaches all her life. When she met with Sally, she explained she wanted freedom from those headaches. As Sally prayed with this woman, she felt led to ask a series of questions that led to the woman’s revealing, for the first time in her life, some sexual abuse she had suffered as a fourteen-year-old girl. The woman said that when she told her mother what had happened, she was told never to speak of it again because the abuser was a relative.

The woman kept her promise until that day in Sally’s apartment. As Sally led the woman in forgiving her abuser and her mother for their exploitation and lack of concern, the woman stopped and said, “My headache is gone.” From that moment on she never had another migraine.

Not all healings work like this one, but God certainly promises to heal. Sometimes that healing comes in ways we don’t expect, but we can be sure that, whatever happens, God will raise our lives to a new level in response to our prayers.
