Inner Peace

[Jesus said,] “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”

John 14:27

INNER PEACE IS something many people seek desperately. Every now and then we read about Hollywood stars or other famous people who struggle with a lack of inner peace. Some commit suicide; others lead lives of terrible sin and debauchery. Many think they will find peace in pleasure, fame, or money. They never find it there, though, and there’s a reason: peace can’t be found in the things of this world. Only God has the power to give us real peace.

Christopher, a reporter for a large newspaper, found this out when he accepted Christ in his thirties. His coworkers ridiculed him. His bosses sometimes slashed his stories for not following the “party line.” But Christopher wasn’t troubled or afraid. He hung in there, reporting the truth as he saw it, for himself and for the Lord.

The Lord never withholds peace from anyone who cries out to him. Is it peace you need at this time in your life? Are you struggling with anxiety, anger, hatred, or fear? God’s antidote is his supernatural peace, and his promise is to give it to any and all who ask. Like Christopher, you will find God ever faithful.
