Glory To God

Glory to God

All glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.

Ephesians 3:20-21

AL METSKER WAS a country boy entering a thriving career in the city when God got hold of his life. Almost immediately, Al wanted to lead teenagers to Christ. These were the days before most churches had youth programs, so Al began reaching teens through small Bible clubs.

Al soon quit his business career to work with teenagers full time. What started as a few school Bible clubs eventually turned into a youth ministry that had weekly youth rallies for fifteen hundred teens, weekly Bible clubs in two hundred schools, two youth camps that ran all summer, a Christian television station, a home for pregnant teens, and other outreaches. The ministry was huge.

When he was asked if he’d ever envisioned Kansas City Youth for Christ, now Youthfront, becoming so large, Al laughed.

“No, I would have told God I couldn’t do it,” he replied. “I would have been like Moses, asking God to pick someone else. I think that’s why God doesn’t show us everything that’s ahead of us—his plans for us are so great that we’d be scared and run the other way.”

We may not be called to lead a large ministry, but God still has plans for each of us—plans to work through us in ways that are better than we can even imagine. The key is to walk step by step with him, willing to be whatever he calls us to be.
