Bad Things

Bad Things

The people will proclaim, “This is our God! We trusted in him, and he saved us! This is the LORD, in whom we trusted. Let us rejoice in the salvation he brings!”

Isaiah 25:9

WHY DO BAD things happen to Christian people?

Years ago, a book by Rabbi Harold Kushner tried to answer a similar question. His conclusion, though, was that we live in an evil world, and though God is powerful and he cares about us, he is not that powerful. Is that very encouraging?

Not really. So why do those bad things in life happen to all of us? This verse reveals one reason: so that when God delivers us, we can proclaim to the world how we trusted God and he came through. We can shout from the mountaintops, “This is what God did for us! Take a look! He is a God of love and salvation!”

Have you ever experienced the joy that comes when you escape from some horrid situation or when some problem is fixed for good? That’s how God often works. He lets us go through hard times so that, in the end, we will see his glory. That’s his promise and his fervent desire for all of us.
