White Robes

White Robes

Blessed are those who wash their robes. They will be permitted to enter through the gates of the city and eat the fruit from the tree of life.

Revelation 22:14

NO ONE CAN enter heaven in an unclean, tainted, sinful state. If God ever allowed us to come into that blessed place with wrong attitudes, thoughts, words, or deeds on our slates, we would soon have the whole place messed up and polluted. Thus, God requires that only those who “wash their robes” can enter. What does that mean?

In other places in Scripture, God speaks of Christians washing their garments in the blood of the Lamb. It’s a spiritual idea, not a physical one. It pictures those who have gone to Christ, confessed their sins, and asked for forgiveness. They have also committed themselves to Christ’s care and will work together with him to grow in grace and learn to walk in the power of the Spirit. Those are the people who are fit for heaven.

A multitude of blessings comes to those who have trusted Christ and become clean inside through his blood. This verse speaks of being allowed to enter the heavenly gates and eat from the tree of life. Have you ever gone to a city such as New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, or other major metropolis and eaten at some marvelous place? That experience is nothing compared to what the experience above will be like.

Get ready for it. God’s promise is firm. We will be righteous saints who will eat the food of God. You can trust that he will fulfill his promise beyond your wildest dreams.
