Give God All Of It

Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.

1 Peter 5:7

WORRY CAN BURY you. Jeremy faced a job layoff and mounting bills and had a car that was on its last miles. He fretted about it constantly, until one day in his devotions he came across this verse from 1 Peter. He mentioned it to his wife. “Claire, have you ever read this?”

She nodded but said she found it difficult to apply. “So do I,” Jeremy said. “What if we pray about this together? Give everything to the Lord. Let’s do an experiment and see what happens. Every time something hits you or me that gets us worried, let’s stop right then and pray about it, giving it to the Lord.”

Claire agreed. About three months later, Jeremy read this verse again and remembered his prayers of some time earlier. Prayers related to worry had actually tapered off. Why? Because the promise that God takes our cares when we give them to him had lessened Jeremy’s anxiety. Claire said, “You know, the same thing has happened to me. I guess it really works.”

Try it. Every time you face a situation where your first reaction is to worry and fret, stop there, and give the problem to the Lord. Wait and see. He provides for those he cares for, and he cares for you!
