Faithful

If we endure hardship, we will reign with him. . . . If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny who he is.

2 Timothy 2:12-13

YELLOWSTONE PARK—LOCATED in Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho—was established in 1872, making it America’s oldest national park. Though the park boasts more than three hundred geysers, probably the most famous is Old Faithful. This geyser erupts, on average, every seventy-four minutes and can be counted on to expel 3,700 to 8,400 gallons of 204-degree water each time.

Though there are some variables in the time between eruptions (from 60 to 110 minutes apart) and the amount of water expelled each time, the geyser faithfully shoots off seventeen times a day. That’s why it’s called Old Faithful. No matter how the years and seasons change or how many tourists come and go, the geyser sticks to seventeen eruptions a day.

One of the attributes of God is that he remains the same. Seasons, years, and people change, but God doesn’t. His character cannot vary. And one of the areas in which he is unchanging is his faithfulness.

Even when we’re fickle and when we struggle in our relationship with God, he is there for us—still caring for us and watching us grow and eager to commune with us. So ask God to help you be more consistent in serving him. He will be there to help you in your struggles and will draw you closer to himself. Knowing he is faithful, we can endure every hardship, because we know we will reign with him in heaven one day.
