Forgiveness

He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases.

Psalm 103:3

WHEN WE TRUST in Christ, how many of our sins does God forgive? All of them.

Think about it for a moment. What if God said, “Okay, you’ve trusted my Son now. I give you four ‘Get out of Jail Free’ cards. You also have five hundred ‘I Forgive Whatever You’ve Done’ tickets. And I’ll also let you get by with breaking my Ten Commandments thirty-two times a year.”

Where would we all be under such a system? If you’re like most of us, you’d run through all those cards and tickets in no time.

But God never puts limits on his forgiveness. It’s complete. Total. Past, present, future. It covers every wrongdoing. Jesus paid for all of them.

We sometimes say that God’s patience does run out. The Bible shows times when God’s patience ran out with people: the people of Noah’s time, Samson, King Saul, Judas Iscariot.

But the question is, Did any of them ask for forgiveness? Did any stop in their tracks, think about what they’d done, and cry out to God, “Okay, I see it now. I’ve done some wrong things. But I’m through with that. Will you forgive me and give me another chance?”

Would God have answered, “All right, just one more chance”? No, he would have drawn each of them back into his arms, assuring them that all was forgiven and that the only thing needed if they sinned again would be to come back and get right with him.

Do you need another—or even still another—chance? God has it covered.
