God Frees You To Let Go Of Expectations - Prayers for Peace of Mind
God Frees You to Let Go of Expectations
“Be silent before the LORD and wait expectantly for him.” (Psalm 37:7, CSB)
The Psalmist gives us an invitation to live expectantly instead of wearing ourselves out with expectations. What’s the difference? Expectations are of our own making; living expectantly means opening ourselves to what God will do.
Isn’t the history of our faith really a beautiful example of living expectantly? The Jewish people expectantly watched for a Messiah. Mary and Joseph expectantly waited for Jesus to be born. The wise men expectantly followed the star.
When we’re in a season that feels like a delay or detour, part of peace is knowing divine timing and plans are often different than ours. We are loved and never overlooked or forgotten. While we’re waiting, God is working.
Prayer:
God, give me the courage to let go of expectations and live expectantly. You alone know the future. You hold the whole world, and my little life, in your hands. When I’m tempted to give in to demands you never placed on me, remind me of what is true and set me free. Amen.
