Trusting God During Difficult Times

FATHER GOD, some days, we go about our tasks and activities without thinking of you much at all, or seeking your wisdom, help, and perspective. If our lives are humming along without too many difficulties, we might have the illusion that we’re holding things together pretty well. Until something goes terribly wrong—a loved one dies, a job ends, a chronic illness takes over, or a relationship is betrayed.

In times of pain and loss, Father, your Word offers tremendous guidance. We realize that although we don’t know what’s going to happen even later today, you know all our yesterdays, todays, and tomorrows. We can barely understand ourselves, but you see the whole human race and understand everything we do.

You remind us that success isn’t having strength of our own. Rather, it comes from trusting you and relying on your unfailing love. Father, when troubles come our way, may we throw ourselves on you and draw upon your resources. You alone can provide us with the hope we need to keep going.
