Spiritual Growth
GOD WHO HELPS US GROW, I was touched when a friend delivered a flowering perennial to my doorstep one wintry day. You know I don’t usually bring plants into my home because I am anything but a gardener. You’ve given some people the knack to make plants thrive, but I’m not one of them.
I’m trying to keep this plant alive until spring, God. It would be gratifying to plant it outside. I’ll do my part by watering and pruning and snipping away dried leaves.
The growth I’m seeing in the plant—still alive!—reminds me of my own spiritual growth. Each morning when I read your Word, your truth nourishes and prunes my heart. It convinces me of your love and encourages me to ask for your help. It prompts me to confess thoughts and attitudes that are dragging me down. I sense that my relationship with you is being fed and is flourishing.
Thank you that spiritual growth is not reserved for just a few talented people. Thank you that it’s available to us all. I’m grateful for your Word, Father. I don’t know where I’d be without it.
