God’s Jealous Love For Us
God’s Jealous Love for Us
LOVING GOD, can you really be jealous over us—over me? How can this be?
Psalm 78:58 recounts that the Israelites “angered God by building shrines to other gods; they made him jealous with their idols.” I’ve read this verse before, but I must have glossed over the part about your children making you jealous with their idols. As I let these words sink into my mind, I am humbled that you would react that way. I feel loved and treasured to think that you would be jealous over us—over me.
I also feel sad when I reflect on times in my life when I’ve turned to other things instead of turning to you. Please accept my confession and forgive me, Father. May this picture of your jealous love shape the thoughts, choices, and decisions I make throughout each day. I don’t want to choose other things instead of you.
Thank you, Father, for allowing me to catch a glimpse of how much you love me.
