God’s Invitation

God’s Invitation

FATHER, you’ve made our hearts, and yet, curiously, you don’t come barging in to take over. You stand outside, you knock, and you wait for us to invite you in. You promise that when we hear you, respond to you, and open the door, you will come in and visit with us, as a friend.

My heart quickens when I ponder this. It’s stunning to think that you—the God who created the world, who sent your Son to earth to die for the sins of the world, and who gave Jesus a seat at your right hand in heaven—would care enough about me to want to pursue a relationship. And yet you do.

Thank you for coming into my heart, kind Father. The time I spend with you is not just sitting down to an ordinary meal. It’s a lavish feast!

Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.
