Hosea 6:3

Oh, that we might know the LORD! Let us press on to know him. He will respond to us as surely as the arrival of dawn or the coming of rains in early spring.

Sometimes we open our Bibles looking for encouragement, peace, hope, or a sense of God’s nearness. These are not bad motives for reading Scripture, but if our expectations aren’t met, we may feel disappointed. What if instead we opened God’s Word with one motivation: to know him more? The prophet Hosea tells us that when we press on to know the Lord—through Scripture, prayer, or searching for his work and presence in our everyday lives—he will respond as surely as the sun comes up or the rain falls in the spring. As you read this devotional, don’t just hope to experience good feelings; see it as an invitation to know your good God.
