Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. . . . But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you . . . that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue.

King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon had built a statue and ordered the people to worship it. When he learned that three exiles from Judah refused to obey, he sentenced them to die in a blazing furnace. The most compelling words in their response, expressing unwavering faith in God’s ability to save them, are But even if he doesn’t. These men didn’t doubt God’s power but were confident he would be glorified, whatever the outcome. The next time you ask God for something, remind yourself also to pray, “But whatever you decide, may my actions bring you glory.”
