Sleep Safe And Sound - One Minute Prayers for Women with Cancer

Sleep Safe and Sound

“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.” (Psalm 4:8, ESV)

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30, ESV)

“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.” (Psalm 23:1-2, ESV)

How many nights have you lain awake, watching the ceiling fan spin while your mind spirals? Or perhaps your aching body jarred you back into consciousness just as you dozed off. Either way, you’re left awake, battling your anxieties and fears. Fear is exhausting. Our cancer, and everything with it, gives us no peace, and we stumble through our days, fear running rampant, feeling anything but safe.

Yet with God, and him alone, we can lie down in safety and peace. Finally—blissfully—sleep comes. Oh, what joy when we’ve been running on fumes and sleep has seemed so elusive.

Lord, I’m so desperate for sleep. It eludes me. Fitful nights of tossing and turning leave me more exhausted than ever. I’m so over it. Fill me with the peace of knowing I’m safe with you so I can lie down and finally sleep. As I get ready for bed each night, may I know your presence and peace. Calm my racing mind and soothe my aching body, Lord. Remind me how safe I am, and bring sleep to my otherwise sleepless nights.
