The Surrendered Life - Meet Me at the Manger: a Devotional for Moms

The Surrendered Life

“‘I am the Lord’s servant,’ Mary answered. ‘May your word to me be fulfilled.’” (Luke 1:38, NIV)

Mary’s life was marked by surrender. Before she became Joseph’s wife, she became the mother of God’s Son. Her willingness to release her plans made room for God’s plan. Surrender wasn’t a one-time act—it became a way of life.

Motherhood reflects this same truth. Every stage calls us to release something—our schedules, our expectations, even our children as they grow. Letting go is never easy, but it’s the soil where trust in God grows.

When we hold on tightly, we often carry fear and stress. But when we open our hands, God fills them with His strength and peace. Surrender doesn’t erase uncertainty, but it anchors us to the One who holds the future.

Like Mary, we are invited to trust that God’s ways, though mysterious, are always good. Each act of surrender creates space for His presence in our lives.

Reflection Question:

What’s one area of your life as a mom where God is asking you to let go and trust Him more fully?

Closing Prayer:

Lord, teach me to live with open hands. Help me to surrender my plans, my fears, and my expectations, trusting that your way is best. May my life, like Mary’s, reflect a willing heart that says “yes” to you. Amen.

Mary’s surrender was strengthened through community. Tomorrow we’ll look at how God uses relationships to remind us we are never alone.
