Entrusted With Something To Carry - Meet Me at the Manger: a Devotional for Moms
Entrusted with Something to Carry
“When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts.” (Matthew 2:10–11, NIV)
God entrusted Mary with the greatest gift ever given: His Son. She first carried Him in her womb, then held Him in her arms. At the same time, the wise men were entrusted with gifts to bring, compelled by a star to meet Jesus at the appointed place. Different journeys, same destination: the manger.
That’s the beauty of God’s design—He entrusts each of us with something to carry. Some carry the quiet but powerful burden of prayer. Others carry the gift of encouragement, wisdom, teaching, or leadership. Still others carry physical resources that bless and sustain. Each offering matters because each one points back to Him.
Motherhood itself is a sacred “something to carry.” Every sleepless night, every whispered prayer, every meal prepared or tear wiped away is a gift carried to the feet of Jesus. And just like Mary, you don’t carry it alone—God sustains you, and He gathers others around you to bring their part too.
The manger drew together shepherds, wise men, and a young mother, each carrying what God had entrusted to them. This Christmas, ask God to remind you of what He’s placed in your hands—and trust that, in His time, He will use it for His glory.
Reflection Question:
What is one gift or responsibility God has entrusted to you right now, and how can you offer it back to Him?
Closing Prayer:
Lord, thank you for entrusting me with something to carry. Help me to see my motherhood, my gifts, and even my daily responsibilities as offerings to you. Remind me that I don’t carry them alone, but with your strength and in the company of others who love you. Amen.
Mary’s journey reminds us that what we carry often requires surrender. Tomorrow we’ll reflect on what it means to release our plans and embrace God’s path, even when it stretches us.
