The Gift Of Community - Meet Me at the Manger: a Devotional for Moms

The Gift of Community

“When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.” (Luke 1:41, NIV)

Good news always brings people together. We text, we call, we gather—because joy is best when shared. When Mary received her good news, she didn’t keep it to herself. She hurried to Elizabeth’s house, where these two women of faith met to share their joy and blessings.

God often uses community to refresh our weary hearts. A friend’s prayer, a shared meal, or a simple word of encouragement can become holy reminders that we’re not walking alone. Just as Elizabeth’s joy confirmed.

Mary’s calling, our communities remind us that God is at work even when we feel overwhelmed.

The Magi also show us the power of community—they brought gifts to share in the wonder of Jesus’ birth. In the same way, God places people in our lives who offer support and celebrate milestones to help us keep going.

This holiday season, allow God to cultivate a heart within you to embrace and share good news where community gathers. Allow others to share in your joy and lean on them when the journey feels heavy.

Reflection Question:

Who is an “Elizabeth” in your life right now—someone who encourages your faith? How might you also be an Elizabeth for another mom?

Closing Prayer:

Lord, thank you for the gift of community. Open my eyes to see the people you’ve placed around me and give me a heart willing to both receive encouragement and offer it to others. Amen.

Mary’s story leads us to the manger—a place of birth, gathering, and celebration. Tomorrow we’ll reflect on how the manger is still an invitation for us today.
