Magnificent Prayer #303

Magnificent Prayer #303

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.

1 John 4:16

Lord, help me to keep my love! Whatever else I lose, may I never lose that! Though all the lights go out from my life, let not this torch be extinguished!

GEORGE MATHESON

Pray About It: What George Matheson was referring to about the “lights going out” of his life was the loss of his sight. The great man of God and hymn writer suffered from blindness for a large portion of his later life. He was willing to lose his sight, but not the torch of his love.

How can we spend time with God, who is love, and not be great lovers ourselves? We can’t. As Augustine says, if we love little, we’ll pray little. If we love much, we’ll pray much.

Let love guide your praying today.

He that loveth little prayeth little; he that loveth much prayeth much.

AUGUSTINE
