A Breed Apart - Leaning on the Promises of God for Moms

A Breed Apart

We don’t hear it very often, but the Bible is clear that God wants us to walk in holiness. So what does it mean to be holy—set apart for God?

It means we have learned to view our lives in light of eternity. It is to live by scriptural principles—seeking first the Kingdom of God, laying up treasures in heaven and not on earth, numbering our days to present God with a heart of wisdom, loving God and our neighbors.

We must put away the sin inside our hearts. We need to root out idols in our lives, anything that we look to for our primary source of value or joy, whether money, television, social media, food, popularity, or any areas of sin we have not repented of.

Holiness means we must spend time in His Word. A holy person is humble: meek, compassionate, and gracious to others. We must be committed to growing in love, because this is what pleases God. Loving means putting away anger and harshness and seeing the other person through the eyes of serving and encouraging them, not looking for what the person can do for me.

Holiness requires us to believe in God’s presence, purpose, and attention, every moment, every day. Without faith, it is impossible to please Him. We believe during the dark times of life. We worship and sing to Him every day. We wait as long as it takes to see His answer to our prayers. We wait on God and God only.

His Promises

Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord.

Hebrews 12:14

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”

John 14:6

But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.”

1 Peter 1:15-16
