No Time Like The Present

No Time like the Present

When I had little babies, I had the illusion that someday, life would settle down and I would have more personal time to myself. Most moms find themselves saying, “Life will be easier when . . . the baby sleeps through the night/there aren’t any more babies/all are out of diapers/all are reading/all can drive/all are through with these hormonal teen years . . .”

Yet, if we are not careful, we can fritter life away waiting for an elusive time in the future when we think all will be well and we will have more time to read, have quiet times, savor moments with our children, be sensitive to our husband’s needs, or pray about what is on the heart of Jesus.

By doing that, we miss living today to its fullest and for God’s glory. We miss the life that was the will of God.

We would all agree that we do not want to live the Martha life—always busy, busy, busy and a tad upset and grumpy, feeling sorry for ourselves, overwhelmed with the lists, having negative thoughts about our children, husband, and life. We do not always take the time to evaluate and see ourselves as we really are.

Mary dropped everything she had to do, sat at Jesus’ feet, engaged her heart, listened intently, and worshiped. She was seeking and choosing what Martha was too distracted and busy to choose. There is evidently only one good path to choose, and it would not be taken away from Mary since she chose it.

His Promises

We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father.

Colossians 1:11

Teach us to realize the brevity of life,

so that we may grow in wisdom.

Psalm 90:12

Don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

Matthew 6:34
