You Have Permission To Enjoy Life!
You Have Permission To Enjoy Life!
Lord, what is the proper balance between work and leisure?
Never be lazy, but work hard and serve me enthusiastically. Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for me rather than for people. Then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done. It is good for people to eat, drink, and enjoy their work under the sun. To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life—this is indeed a gift from me.
Romans 12:11; Colossians 3:23; Galatians 6:4; Ecclesiastes 5:18-19
So is it okay to have times of leisure and fun?
Who can eat or enjoy anything apart from me? Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to you from me. There is nothing better for people in this world than to eat, drink, and enjoy life. That way you will experience some happiness along with all the hard work I give you under the sun.
Ecclesiastes 2:25; James 1:17; Ecclesiastes 8:15
What can I pray that will remind me to take time to enjoy life?
How joyful are those who fear you, LORD—all who follow your ways! We will enjoy the fruit of our labor. How joyful and prosperous we will be! Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in your presence. Let us be filled with joy.
Psalm 128:1-2; Psalm 68:3
How does God’s Word encourage you to balance your work and play? Think about last week. When did you feel most productive? When did you feel tired or burned out? What activities refreshed you? Is there a way you can bring times of rest and refreshment into your schedule before you reach the point of exhaustion? Schedule a life-giving activity into your upcoming week. Write it on the calendar so you don’t forget.
