When Trust Faces Uncertainty

Lord, how can I trust you when I’m dealing with great uncertainty?

I am the Alpha and the Omega—the beginning and the end. I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come—the Almighty One. I am the one who shaped the mountains, stirs up the winds, and reveals my thoughts to mankind. I turn the light of dawn into darkness and tread on the heights of the earth. The LORD God of Heaven’s Armies is my name!

What is something I can be certain of today?

Even in darkness you cannot hide from me. To me the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to me. I saw you before you were born. Every day of your life was recorded in my book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. You still belong to me; I hold your right hand. I guide you with my counsel, leading you to a glorious destiny.

Psalm 139:12, 16; Psalm 73:23-24

What can I pray when I’m anxious because of all the uncertainty in my life?

Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you. Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. May your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing.

Psalm 143:8, 10

Though you may be surprised and shaken by life’s circumstances, God is not. Write down every quality that this morning’s reading reveals about God’s character. Make note of the ones you long to see more of. Prayerfully ask God to keep revealing these aspects of his character as you choose to trust him in life’s uncertainty.
