A Perspective To Bring You Through Tough Times

A Perspective To Bring You Through Tough Times

Lord, why do we suffer? Why don’t you protect us from bad things?

Don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you. Instead, be very glad—because these trials will make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world. I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.

1 Peter 4:12-13; John 16:33

What do you protect me from?

I am your hiding place; I protect you from trouble. I surround you with songs of victory. My faithful promises are your armor and protection. I order my angels to protect you wherever you go. I am faithful; I will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.

Psalm 32:7; Psalm 91:4, 11; 2 Thessalonians 3:3

What can I pray when I don’t feel safe or secure?

Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.

Psalm 23:4

Following Jesus doesn’t make us immune to struggles. He warned that, on this earth, troubles will come. However, God promises help and protection as you go through times of suffering. Complete the following prayer by filling in the blanks: “Lord, I am struggling with _____, but I take heart because you have overcome the world. Even though I’m facing _____, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. You have told me all this so I will have peace in you. Amen.”
