No Favorites

Lord, do you favor some people more than others?

I created human beings in my own image. In my image I created them; male and female I created them. I show no favoritism. In every nation I accept those who fear me and do what is right. You are made right with me by placing your faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who they are.

How should your lack of favoritism affect the way I live?

Live in harmony with others. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all! Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with others, making allowance for their faults because of your love. Make every effort to stay united in the Spirit, binding yourselves to others with peace.

What can I pray when I find myself playing favorites?

Cleanse me from these hidden faults, O God. Keep me from deliberate sins! Don’t let them control me. Make my love for all people grow and overflow. Help me do what is right, just, and fair.

The world tries to rank people’s worth based on their race, gender, ethnicity, political beliefs, and socioeconomic status. However, God’s Word is countercultural and clear: He has no favorites. Every person is created in his image and has equal value. He loves every person he created. Therefore, we are to love all people equally as well. Are there some people whom you tend to favor over others? People who look like you? Those who are successful or more financially stable than others? Ask God to help your love for all people grow.
