How To Love Those With Whom You Disagree

Lord, how can I handle disagreements in a way that is pleasing to you?

Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. A servant of mine must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone and be patient with difficult people. Clothe yourself with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for others’ faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, I forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourself with love, which binds everyone together in perfect harmony.

But sometimes I get so angry. How can I keep quarrels from spiraling out of control?

Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what I have called you to do, and I will bless you for it. A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare. Don’t sin by letting anger control you. Think about it overnight and remain silent.

How can I pray for my difficult relationships?

May you, Lord, the one who gives patience and encouragement, help me live in complete harmony with others, as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus.
