Care For Your Body Because It Is A Gift From God

Lord, what makes my body special?

Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by me? You do not belong to yourself, for I bought you with a high price. So you must honor me with your body.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

If my body belongs to you, do I have a say in what I get to do?

You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. Your body was made for me, and I care about your body. Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourself completely to me, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for my glory.

1 Corinthians 6:12-13; Romans 6:13

How can I pray about my body?

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.

Psalm 139:13-14

Your body is a gift from God. When you don’t respect or care for your body, you break down the very vessel God wants to use to help accomplish his work in the world. If you think about your body as being the temple of the Holy Spirit, what are some ways you can care for and respect it? Exercise more? Drink more water? Get more rest? Eat healthier food? Choose one area to focus on this week.
