Adversity Is Never Wasted
Adversity Is Never Wasted
Lord, can anything good come from my troubles and difficulties?
I am your merciful Father and the source of all comfort. I comfort you in all your troubles so that you can comfort others. When others are troubled, you will be able to give them the same comfort I have given you. When troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. Endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens your confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4; James 1:2-3; Romans 5:4-5
What if I can’t handle the trials ahead? Will you help me?
I am your refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
Psalm 46:1; Isaiah 41:10
How can I pray for the right attitude as I suffer?
My suffering was good for me, for it taught me to pay attention to your decrees. Your instructions are more valuable to me than millions in gold and silver.
Psalm 119:71-72
Sometimes, suffering is so intense we can’t feel anything except our pain. But God’s Word gives us hope that our circumstances can become tools that shape and develop our character and help others going through similar circumstances. If your suffering causes you to doubt God’s care for you, tell him how you feel. Write down your feelings and use them as a starting point for honest, vulnerable prayer today. How are you hoping God will redeem this hurt? This season?
