You Belong In The Family Of God
You Belong In The Family Of God
Lord, what does it mean that I belong to you?
You have not received a spirit that makes you a fearful slave. Instead, you received my Spirit when I adopted you as my own child. Now you call me “Abba, Father.” For my Spirit joins with your spirit to affirm that you are my child.
Romans 8:15-16
Jesus, what assurance do I have that I’m part of your family?
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me, for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch you from my Father’s hand. For you are a child of God through your faith in me. And now that you belong to me, you are a true child of Abraham. You are among his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you.
John 10:27-29; Galatians 3:26, 29
What can I pray when I fear I’ll be left out?
Don’t let my heart be troubled. I trust in you, Jesus. For you have said, “There is more than enough room in my Father’s home.”
John 14:1-2
Belonging to God’s family means you are fully accepted by him. Scripture assures you that you are worth the life of God’s Son, whom he sent to secure your salvation. Your place in the family of God can never be taken away. When do you doubt that you’re a part of God’s family? When you make mistakes? When you feel detached from him? How might your own family history affect the way you think about belonging to God’s family?
