What Real Love Looks Like
Lord, what is your ideal for love?
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
How is this kind of love even possible?
You know how dearly I love you, because I have given you the Holy Spirit to fill your heart with my love. You love others because I loved you first. I am love, and all who live in love live in me, and I live in them. And as you live in me, your love grows more perfect.
Romans 5:5; 1 John 4:19; 1 John 4:16-17
How can I pray when I want to love others as you do?
With all my heart I will praise you, O Lord my God. I will give glory to your name forever, for your love for me is very great. May you make my love for other Christians and for all people grow and overflow, just as your love for me overflows.
Psalm 86:12-13; 1 Thessalonians 3:12
Jesus is our example of real love. In everything he did, he was patient, kind, humble, peaceful, faithful, and had the heart of a servant. His love endured the cross, taking the penalty for our sin upon himself. His love gives us hope because it was strong enough to defeat death and give us the means to receive God’s love forever. In light of what Jesus has done for you in love, choose someone to love today by asking, “What can I do for you?” When you follow through, thank God for how he loves you.
