Developing A Deeper Relationship With God

Developing A Deeper Relationship With God

Lord, how do you pursue an intimate relationship with me?

Even before I made the world, I loved you and chose you in Christ to be holy and without fault in my eyes. I showed my great love for you by sending Christ to die for you while you were still a sinner. So now you can rejoice in your wonderful new relationship with me because your Lord Jesus Christ has made you a friend of mine.

Ephesians 1:4; Romans 5:8, 11

How am I to pursue an intimate relationship with you?

I am close to all who call on me; yes, to all who call on me in truth. You must love me with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. You must worship no other gods, for I am jealous about my relationship with you.

Psalm 145:18; Matthew 22:37; Exodus 34:14

What can I pray to remember that your intimate love is always available to me?

Each day, you pour your unfailing love upon me, LORD, and through each night I sing your songs, praying to you, God, who gives me life.

Psalm 42:8

Intimacy happens through knowing and being known by someone. We can know things about God that he has revealed through his Word and through experience, but we must also open our hearts to be known by him. Prayerfully consider whether you are open to God in your heart, mind, and spirit. Is there anything preventing you from drawing nearer to him in any of these areas? Examples might be fear, doubt, addictions, fantasies, trauma, selfishness, or pride. Invite the Lord into these areas of your life and tell him you are ready to open all of yourself to a deeper relationship with him.
