Just Be Yourself

Just Be Yourself

Lord, I’m tired of pretending to have it all together. How can I be authentic in my relationship with you?

Everyone has sinned; all fall short of my glorious standard. If you claim you have no sin, you are only fooling yourself and not living in the truth. But if you confess your sins to me, I am faithful and just to forgive your sins and cleanse you from all wickedness. Give all your worries and cares to me, for I care about you.

Romans 3:23; 1 John 1:8-9; 1 Peter 5:7

How can I be more authentic with others?

Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. And don’t think you know it all! Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.

Romans 12:9, 16; James 5:16

What can I pray to ask you to help me live authentically?

Help me abandon my shameful ways; for your regulations are good. I long to obey your commandments! Renew my life with your goodness. May integrity and honesty protect me, for I put my hope in you.

Psalm 119:39-40; Psalm 25:21

It is human nature to cover up the messes in our lives. Maybe you think that if you portray a picture-perfect image, others will see you as successful and self-sufficient. It is humbling to admit you have struggles, yet this is the first step in bringing authenticity to your life with God and others. Be vulnerable with God by allowing him into the messiness of your life. What are you anxious about? Where do you notice feelings of jealousy or envy? Whom do you want to impress, and to what lengths will you go to gain admiration? Read Romans 3:23-24 and experience God’s love and forgiveness.
