Every Good Thing Comes From God

Every Good Thing Comes From God

Lord, what does it mean to depend on you?

I am your Master! Every good thing you have comes from me. Do not think you are qualified to do anything on your own. Your qualification comes from me. Trust in me at all times. Pour out your heart to me, for I am your refuge.

Psalm 16:2; 2 Corinthians 3:5; Psalm 62:8

What are the benefits of depending on you, Lord?

I am the vine; you are a branch. If you remain in me, and I in you, you will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. But blessed are you if you trust in me and make me your hope and confidence. You will be like a tree planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such a tree is not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Your leaves will stay green, and you will never stop producing fruit.

John 15:5; Jeremiah 17:7-8

Father, what can I pray to deepen my dependence on you?

O my God, I thank you and praise your glorious name! But who am I, that I could give anything to you? Everything I have has come from you, and I give you only what you first gave me!

1 Chronicles 29:13-14

Depending on God means that your trust is deeply rooted in him; thus, whatever you do, it is for his glory and by his grace. Dependence on God isn’t weakness but confidence that you are connected to the one who is the giver of all good gifts. Make a gratitude list this evening. Write down every blessing God has given you. Review your list regularly, thanking the Lord that you can place your hope and confidence in him.
