Obedience Is For Your Blessing
Obedience Is For Your Blessing
Lord, why do you command my obedience?
Do what is right and good in my sight, so all will go well with you. I commanded you to obey all my decrees and to fear me so I can continue to bless you and preserve your life. Those who obey my commands remain in fellowship with me, and I with them. When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love.
Deuteronomy 6:18, 24; 1 John 3:24; John 15:10
What are some of the blessings of obedience?
Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. They delight in my law, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do. Obey me, and I will be your God, and you will be my people. Do everything as I say, and all will be well!
Psalm 1:1-3; Jeremiah 7:23
What can I pray to help me walk more faithfully in obedience to you?
I will not compromise with evil, LORD, and will walk only in your paths. Oh, that my actions would consistently reflect your decrees! Then I will not be ashamed when I compare my life with your commands. As I learn your righteous regulations, I will thank you by living as I should!
Psalm 119:3, 5-7
Your obedience to God is proof of your love for him and your desire to remain close to him. Obedience also opens up pathways of blessing. Reflect on this past year. When have you practiced obedience to God? Where have you seen the fruit or blessing of that obedience? Say a prayer of thankfulness to God for giving you commands that protect and bless you.
