Are You Teachable?
Lord, what are the attributes of someone with a teachable heart?
Wise people treasure knowledge, but the babbling of a fool invites disaster. Intelligent people are always ready to learn. Their ears are open for knowledge. Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listen to others. Fools have no interest in understanding; they only want to air their own opinions. A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.

How can I become more open to your instruction?
My child, listen to what I say, and treasure my commands. Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means to fear me, and you will gain knowledge of who I am. Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair, and you will find the right way to go.

Teach me your ways, O LORD, that I may live according to your truth!

Think about the contrast between the wise person and the fool in the verses above. Are you open to what the Lord wants to teach you in every circumstance? In conversations with others, do you tend to talk more than you listen? Ask someone, “What can I do to be a better ________ (spouse, parent, boss, friend, sibling, coworker, neighbor)?” Before you ask, reread the Scriptures above to gain wisdom about how to approach this conversation. Ask God for his insight and wisdom as you listen.
