Thirsty

Thirsty

Those who follow Jesus grow hungry and thirsty on the way.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer

When you invited Jesus into your life, you longed for more wisdom and deeper truths. You spent hours with Me. Spiritual thirst came naturally when your faith was new. Your sins had just been forgiven, and your hunger for more knowledge was a compelling factor in the way you spent your time. You read in My Word that I satisfy the thirsty and fill the hungry with good things (Psalm 107:9). When you set your heart on following Jesus, your desire for a closer, more intimate, and totally committed relationship became a driving force in your life. The more you got to know Him, the thirstier you were for His teaching, His example, and His presence.

Time has passed, and pain has eroded your once-vibrant passion for more of My truth. I have a banquet of spiritual food and drink available to you, but you’ve been distracted by current pressures and have pulled away from the tender intimacy we once knew. You were created for fellowship with Me. Ask Me to reveal what’s wrong. “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts” (Psalm 139:23). If you pray in this way, I will reveal what needs to change. When you repent of wrong thinking and wrongdoing, your hunger and thirst for Me will return. The banquet table is ready for you. Come thirsty!

O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water.

Psalm 63:1
