Postures In Prayer

Postures In Prayer

God wills that men should pray everywhere, but the place of His Glory is in the solitudes, where He hides us in the cleft of the rock, and talks with man face to face as a man talketh with his friend.

Samuel Chadwick

Talk to Me, dear one—when you rise up, when you sit down, when you are glad, when you are sad, when you think I’m answering your prayers and when you think I haven’t heard your requests. Keep talking to Me. Sometimes you have neglected prayer when you think your day isn’t quiet enough and when the busyness of life keeps you from going to a secluded, private place. Because I’m your friend, I want you to converse with Me as you’re walking, with your eyes wide open. Pray for the people you encounter, that they will get to know Me intimately, that their needs will be met.

Here’s what I want you to do. Practice approaching Me with different postures—kneeling (Daniel 6:10), bowing down (Psalm 95:6), standing (2 Chronicles 20:5-6), lifting your hands (Psalm 134:2), and lying prostrate before Me (Joshua 5:14). There is a time and place for every posture—come close to Me in the way your heart directs today. Sometimes you will rejoice in My presence with hands lifted high. Or you might be flat on your face crying out your pain. Or you might kneel in humble submission, asking for guidance. However you come before Me, I’m listening. I will answer.

Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the LORD our maker.

Psalm 95:6
