Mercy

God’s mercy is so great that you may sooner drain the sea of its water, or deprive the sun of its light, or make space too narrow, than diminish the great mercy of God.

I am a God of mercy, and that’s important news for you. It’s sometimes hard for you to understand My mercy because society gravitates toward harsh criticism and an attitude of “I hope they get what they have coming to them.” The human response is to want callous justice, but instead of giving you what you deserve, I offer mercy.

As you seek My wisdom, you’ll learn how to react to people and circumstances in a way that honors Me. When you encounter difficult relationships, unwanted situations, and other problems, remember that My wisdom is “peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere” (James 3:17). Mercy isn’t cheap—it cost the life of My Son, Jesus Christ, to set you free from the penalty of your sin. I long for you to respond as Peter did: “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation” (1 Peter 1:3). Because of My mercy, you can live with hope.

Let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
