Meaning

Solomon talks of having everything, but finally concludes that the only thing of value is having God in your life. He alone gives meaning to life.

Beware of searching for meaning by focusing only on your own goals and desires. No matter what height of success you achieve, that approach can lead to discouragement and disillusionment. Think about King Solomon, who was considered the wisest man who ever lived. He amassed great power and wealth, but he indulged in lusts that pulled him away from Me. Eventually he concluded, “‘Everything is meaningless . . . completely meaningless!’ What do people get for all their hard work under the sun?” (Ecclesiastes 1:2-3).

My Word is the manual for living a meaningful life. Start with discovering your purpose: “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’” (Luke 10:27). This purpose will lead to meaning. When you put Me first and seek My will, you will discover the mission I have for your life—one that will bless others, bring you fulfillment, and glorify My name.

Praise the Lord! For all who fear God and trust in him are blessed beyond expression. Yes, happy is the man who delights in doing his commands.
