Holders

Holders

Holders are people who stand beside us even when things are unpleasant; they have a capacity to stay unshaken for the long haul. . . . Holders are not afraid to speak the truth. . . . I’ve come to realize that the people who help me the most are the ones who have the questions, not the ones who have the answers.

Karen Burton Mains

Dear one, there are certain seasons of the year that are more difficult than others. People around you seem to have normal lives. They’re surrounded by thoughtful family members and friends. It seems they never have to maneuver complicated circumstances. The sharp contrast to your situation is hard to comprehend, since you’ve asked Me for a more comfortable life. Instead of telling Me how to answer your prayer, look around and seek the companionship of the people I’ve placed in your path. They are My “holders,” the ones who listen even when you’re upset. They aren’t intimidated by your mood swings or by your displeasure with everything that’s happening. They hold you with their prayers and their presence, and they remain unshaken no matter how long you need support.

Listen to their words. They remind you that I am always here, offering you My hand. They tell you not to be afraid, because I’m going to help you. They speak My truth—even if it’s not what you want to hear. If you allow them to bring you assurance and encouragement, you will be comforted. They are part of My plan for restoring your hope and joy.

For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.

Isaiah 41:13, NIV
