First Love
First Love
God is calling you to a passionate love relationship with Himself. Because the answer to religious complacency isn’t working harder at a list of do’s and don’ts—it’s falling in love with God.
Francis Chan
Remaining close to Me requires making Me your first love. Am I your highest priority, or are your urgent daily tasks pulling you away from My presence? Stop long enough each morning to hear My voice and seek My will. Remember when you first said yes to Me? You were madly in love, and you felt lighter because I took the weight of your sin. You sang a new song, and you sought out the closeness of nestling in My arms. You lingered in My embrace and waited for affirmation and instruction. There was a sparkle in your eyes every time you told someone about our relationship.
I miss those times. You’ve grown lukewarm in your affection for Me as you’ve focused more on the distractions and confusion in your life and in the world at large. Do you miss our closeness as much as I do? To return to your first love, you must put Me first in all things—above your job, above your family, and above your problems. Seek My presence above all else and allow Me to hold you, help you, console you, and meet your needs. Experience the incomparable joy we once knew. Come back, My love.
I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first!
