Fire Time

It takes time to come to the fire, it takes effort to keep the fire burning, it takes a willingness to become quiet enough to hear what God might be saying, and it takes courage to snuff out competing sounds and demands that attempt to shorten or neutralize the effect of the fire time.

What is the condition of your faith-fire? When you were a brand-new Christian, your first sparks were just beginning to flicker. After you developed more history with Me, your faith became a raging bonfire. Now, due to suffering amid the harsh realities of life, you may feel like your once-vibrant faith is turning into an ash heap. If you’re discouraged, look for the ember in the middle of the fire that is still red-hot on the inside. All it needs is more fuel and fresh wind.

Dig into My Word, even when it feels inconvenient. Come into My presence and talk to Me often. As you “come to the fire,” remember that you need to add the fuel of Scripture and invite the wind of the Holy Spirit. The apostle Paul inspired young Timothy to carry on the legacy of his family’s faith, saying, “That precious memory triggers another: your honest faith—and what a rich faith it is, handed down from your grandmother Lois to your mother Eunice, and now to you!” (2 Timothy 1:5, MSG). Allow Me to stir up a faith-fire within you that not only encourages you with the warmth of My presence, but also spreads like wildfire to others.

Don’t burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame. Be alert servants of the Master, cheerfully expectant. Don’t quit in hard times.
