Contentment

Contentment should be the hallmark of the man or woman who has put his or her affairs in the hands of God.

Contentment comes when you are at peace with your possessions, status, and situation in life. In your own strength, achieving it is an impossible task. Your natural inclination is to allow jealousy and self-pity to take root. That brings resentment, and you’re then tempted to covet the favorable life, excellent job, financial security, close-knit family, or apparent happiness of someone else.

But I’m inviting you to view your circumstances through My eyes. It’s too hard to move forward without confidence in My care. When you trust that I am in sovereign control of your hardships, you can press into a safe place where there is rest, peace, and a different kind of contentment—a satisfaction not based on financial security or physical comfort, a serenity that can only be experienced when your focus is on a life beyond this one. It’s a life free from physical pressures, debilitating jealousy, emotional challenges, mental anxiety, and the control of hurtful people. It’s a deliberate choice to put your affairs into My hands.

I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
