Clenched Fists

Clenched Fists

We come into this world with our fingers curled and only slowly, by repeated practice, do we learn to open our hands. It takes a great deal of dying to get us ready to live.

Virginia Stem Owens

I know it’s hard for you to let go and trust Me with the complicated circumstances of your life. People have betrayed you in the past, and you’ve grown accustomed to controlling the outcome of every scenario in order to avoid being hurt in the future. You are in a battle every day, and you have a choice to make. Do you want to be in charge of your life, or do you want Me to be in control of your life? You can continue to hold tightly to everything and everybody around you, or you can let go. “Let go of your concerns! Then you will know that I am God. I rule the nations. I rule the earth” (Psalm 46:10, GW).

To begin positive change, physically open your fists before Me and say, “God, I’m giving up my control, and I’m asking You to be in charge of the things in my life that are out of control.” You’re experiencing stress and anxiety because you keep trying to maintain total management of the people closest to you. Sometimes your behavior crosses over into manipulation, which makes you and others miserable. As you open your fists of control and let Me take you by the hand, I will teach you what to say and help you navigate unfamiliar terrain. Learn to walk in step with Me and allow our relationship to grow in maturity.

Those who trust in the LORD are as secure as Mount Zion; they will not be defeated but will endure forever.

Psalm 125:1
