Belonging

Belonging

I believe that a true sense of belonging today comes not only from knowing that we belong to God, but also from belonging to each other. . . . In Christ we have the capacity for the fulfilling sense of belonging which comes from intimate fellowship with God and with other believers.

Neil T. Anderson

I created you to experience companionship, intimacy, and meaningful relationships with Me and with others. Every time you start to feel alone and unwanted, study My truth and bask in the fact that you belong to Me! Still, I want you to do more than believe in Me—I want you to belong to a group of fellow believers who will laugh with you, weep with you, support you, encourage you, celebrate with you, and be there for you. As you spend time in each other’s company and worship Me together, your hearts and minds will be united in a bond that nurtures you and builds you up. I designed you to belong!

There is a decision you need to make. You can choose loneliness or togetherness, isolation or community, withdrawal or participation. In the midst of your difficulties, you’ve pulled back, afraid you’ll be a burden to others. These thoughts do not come from Me. Don’t deprive other Christ-followers of the delight of knowing you. Reach out and take the risk. Your relationship with Me is personal, but I also fashioned you for fellowship with others. You belong to a uniquely special group!

So it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.
