Being Real

[God] doesn’t expect us to perform for him. He loves us always—when we’re disappointed or hurt or making a mess of things. Sometimes we speak to him in a language that only he can understand. What matters to him is that we are vulnerable, that we are completely ourselves.

Show your heart to Me and to others. Stop hiding your true feelings. I don’t expect you to pretend that you’re not in pain, or hurt in a relationship, or disappointed that your prayers seem to go unanswered. I desire your honesty, and so do the people around you. Be truthful in your responses—and that includes the times when you’re with people who aren’t following Me. They will see the integrity of your responses and realize they don’t have to be perfect to become Christ-followers.

Be intentional about growing your faith. Join with others in studying My Word and give voice to your questions and your doubts. When you are authentic enough to ask about your deepest concerns, you give Me room to work in your life. As you are transparent with Me while allowing the people around you to observe your spiritual journey, they will be drawn to a genuine faith—a faith that welcomes hard questions.

By the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain.
